Professional Diagnostics & Fault Finding

If you see warning lights illuminated on your dashboard, you may require an engine diagnostics check to help identify potential problems with your vehicle.

As technology advances, modern vehicles are increasingly becoming a ‘computer on wheels’, and therefore advanced vehicles require advanced diagnostic technology.

At Foxtail Garage our expert technicians perform engine diagnostic checks to learn more about why your vehicle is not functioning correctly for as little as £35.

You don’t need to pay dealer prices!

What is an Engine Diagnostic check?

The engine diagnostic check tests the vehicle’s engine control computer (ECU) to scan all of the different systems to provide a list of any problems and error codes.

What does Diagnostic check?

The machine scans various areas such as the engine, brakes, airbags and alarms, including:

  • Reads and erases the vehicle error memory. In the case that a fault light is displayed on the dashboard, the diagnostics machine can read it and turn it off once the fault has been fixed.
  • Reads live data from the vehicle. A list of values from around the engine can be displayed side by side to ensure that all components are working correctly and giving the correct values.
  • Actuator tests. Certain components can be activated to make sure they are working correctly and getting signals from the ECU.
  • Reprogramming of components to correct faults.
  • Resetting of service lights. Once a service has been carried out, the car needs to be informed so that the service warning light can be reset.
  • Winding back brake calipers. Some cars with electronic handbrakes need to put into service mode to change the rear brake pads.

What is wheel alignment?

Wheel alignment or tracking refers to the angle and direction at which the tyres are set.

Hitting kerbs or driving at speed through a pothole can result in wheel misalignment. Poorly aligned tyres can affect road holding, increase fuel consumption and decrease the life of your tyres.

How do I know if my wheels need to be aligned?

Watch out for these classic signs of wheel misalignment:

  • Uneven tyre wear
  • Steering wheel pull (the steering wheel pulling to the left or right when driving on an even surface)

How can I get my wheels aligned?

If you spot the signs of misaligned wheels, book a wheel alignment online and our specialist technicians will correct the problem.

Battery Replacement

The main function of a car battery is to supply electricity to various car systems. It powers the starting system through the starter motor and the ignition system. It also provides energy for the lights. In older cars, leaving car lights on was a sure way to run down the energy in car battery, but in modern cars an alarm system prevents you from doing this.

If you keep your car long enough, you will probably have to replace the battery at some point. Quality car batteries for every type of car are readily available from Foxtail Garage. Call us for expert advice.

Air Conditioning Servicing & Re-Gas

Over two thirds of all vehicles manufactured today come with air conditioning and climate control systems as standard. Many drivers experience the benefits of air con in their car or van on a hot day but just like other parts of your car, the air-conditioning system also needs regular attention to ensure it continues to work efficiently and effectively.

You may not be aware that over 10% of Air-Con gas permeates from the air-con system every year, which means that it may not work as well as it should. This is why car manufacturers recommend your air-con system is recharged with gas and lubricant every 2 years. This service is not part of routine vehicle servicing, so if your vehicle is more than 2 years old it’s probably due an air-con recharge.

Timing Belts

The cambelt or timing belt is one of the most crucial components of your engine, so if you're at all unsure whether it's time for a replacement, book an appointment with our technicians today.

Based on the age and mileage of your vehicle, our experts can quickly assess whether you need a replacement. If there are no issues, you can be on your way without delay.

If we do spot problems, we can provide you with precise cambelt replacement costs.

Water Pumps

It's vital that your engine operates at a proper working temperature. Car engines can get extremely hot and quickly suffer serious damage as a consequence.

Usually located at the front or side of the car behind the fan belt, it's the job of the water pump to circulate water from the radiator to the engine in order to regulate its temperature. Centrifugal force then forces water into the engine block on into the cylinder heads before draining back into the radiator ready to be recycled through the system. If coolant starts leaking or you notice your engine overheating then replace your water pump immediately, as engine damage may be irreparable.

Software Updates

As technology advances, modern vehicles are increasingly becoming a ‘computer on wheels’, and therefore advanced vehicles require advanced technology.

We ensure that your vehicle is operating the latest available software from the manufacturer.

If you drive a vehicle over three years old, you’re required by law to keep it in a safe, roadworthy condition. MOT tests simply assess whether or not your Car, Van or 4x4 meets the minimum road safety and environmental standard.

Car MOT and Van MOT tests can only be carried out by trained and qualified specialists at centres authorised by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

Vehicles that do not pass their MOT test are not eligible to be driven on the UK’s roads and failure to have your vehicle MOT tested may result in a fine.

The MOT test isn’t the same as having your vehicle serviced and doesn’t check its general mechanical condition. But we always recommend that you get your vehicle regularly serviced on top of the compulsory MOT test.

Call us today on 01367 718698 to book your MOT and servicing to keep your vehicle in top condition!

Performance Tuning & Re-Mapping

ECU remaps will optimise the performance of your car, helping to maximise your driving pleasure. Engine tuning, for petrol or diesel engines, will change your driving experience.

There are so many limits on driving these days. Even your car's intended performance is restricted because car manufacturers have to allow for drivers who do not adhere to service schedules and who use sub-standard fuels. The good news is that ECU remap software can free you from these limits.

So if you want the best from your car you need an engine ECU remap. Just call Foxtail Garage and we will free your engine from those restrictive limits, giving you a more rewarding, more exciting drive!
